In the bas-relief is depicted Lord Smbat Orbelian on a horse attacking a lion. The bas-relief was carved in XIII century. The Lord Smbat was the Prince of Syunik Province. Later he was crowned as the King of Syunik during the Mongolian domination in Armenia by the Mongol Khan Munke, the grandson of Chingiz Khan.
No prince in the Middle Ages could wear a crown, but Smbat Orbelian was an exception as he had been recognized as a king.
